Meet the Therapist
My name is Madison Jewell.
I’ve been riding horses for about 10 years, both in English and Western. While my main focus is the English world, more specifically jumping, I do enjoy throwing a western saddle on and pretending to be a cowgirl! I fell in love with riding at a pony party when I was about 8 years old. I very vividly remember sitting on a grey pony, holding onto the saddle horn, getting led around, and being terrified at every little movement the horse made, thinking "I’m going to be a barrel racer." After a couple of years of western lessons, I decided jumping horses over colourful sticks might be more fun. My current adventure is with my mini donkey Eeyore!
WHAT IS CALMING CANTER?
Calming Canter is run solely by me (Madison Jewell)! I am an Equine Sport Therapist with an interest in many different modalities. Each one of my visits can include massage, energy work, and saddle fitting. More to come as I am still growing and learning as a therapist!
MASSAGE
Your horse will receive a full body assessment. During the assessment I will take note of any problem areas to come back to later and treat. After the assessment your horse will receive a full body massage with focus to the problem areas found in the assessment. I focus on the cues the horse gives me and pay close attention to their body language. I make sure adjust my approach to suit their comfort and needs. Your horses relaxation and comfort is the main goal.
SADDLE FITTING
A saddle fitting appointment begins with an assessment of the back and surrounding areas where I take note of any issues a saddle maybe causing. I then asses your saddle for symmetry and sturdiness to ensure it will fit comfortable to your horses back. I start off with a dry fit (no pad/blanket) to look for any rubbing or pressure points. We finish off fitting the saddle with a pad or blanket. If the saddle does not fit your horse we can discuss shimming or a different type of pad.
